Latest Updates from Our Project:

Bonus items with every reward!

Hi everyone,

I think I may have posted this in a past note, but we had a slight delay in the shipping of Eva Müller's "In The Future, We Are Dead". We now have them in stock, and I've started shipping rewards to those of you who selected April's rewards. I'm also working feverishly on all of the custom art for those who ordered that!

I always like to include free stuff with Birdcage Bottom Books orders (usually a mini-comic of some sort, sometimes books for our loyal repeat customers), so I thought I'd do the same for all of you who backed this Kickstarter.

Everyone will get these literacy PSA bookmarks drawn by Sam Spina (lovingly risograph printed by yours truly) along with their rewards! I've always loved Sam's comics. We stock a bunch of them in our distro (and published a hilarious series of minis called "The Complete TARN"), so hopefully you'll become a fan if you aren't already.

Free for you!
Free for you!

Thanks again, everyone!

BOTTOMS UP! anthology wins award/now available as add-on item!
about 6 years ago – Mon, Apr 16, 2018 at 12:53:03 PM

Yay!
Yay!

We were very excited to win the "Best Anthology" DiNKy award for our "BOTTOMS UP! True Tales of Hitting Rock-Bottom" book (our "You're Garbage Fired!" mini by Adam Meuse was nominated for "Outstanding 'Zine" as well!).

That book went quickly out of print after its debut last September, but this award, along with demand, has given us a kick in the pants to print another edition.

It won't be ready in time for those of you who chose the April releases, but for those of you who have shipments in September or November, you can now choose BOTTOMS UP! as an add-on item if you wish. As a thank you, we will include a 2-color risograph print of Ben Passmore's awesome cover art!

Bad News/Good News/Bad News
about 6 years ago – Fri, Apr 06, 2018 at 07:17:16 PM

It's been a whirlwind of emotions at Birdcage Bottom Books HQ in the last few days.

First we were told by our printer that Eva Müller's "In The Future, We Are Dead", the book we've been working on for months, would not arrive in time to debut at MoCCA Fest this weekend as planned.

After much begging, pleading and gnashing of teeth, the printer moved some things around in order to print & send 32 copies overnight. We got them this morning, and lo & behold the last chapter (and artist bio) is missing in every one of them!

More begging/pleading/teeth gnashing ensued, and we're told that they're going to try to send another box of correctly printed books for us tomorrow. If it happens to get here before we leave for MoCCA, we'll have them at the show. If not, uh, we won't.

In any case, the full shipment should be arriving soon after by truck, and I'll be testing the limits of my sciatica by loading them Jenga-style into the basement. Then, they'll start shipping out to you you YOU!

Another important note...please read!

Hi backers!

The comics are starting to roll in from the printers. We've got Thonger Dongers and Pictures of Bananas & Funny Bugs in so far (see photo below). Our printer in Canada had a bit of a miscommunication, and so In The Future, We Are Dead won't get here until after MoCCA this weekend. BUT, I was able to get them to ship 30 overnight to me in order to (hopefully) have some at the show.

I think I've ironed out the BackerKit shipping situation. The shipping rates from Kickstarter don't always match up exactly with the shipping calculator in BackerKit (there's no way to really account for things that have to ship separately or additional insurance for original art), but I figured out a workaround.

If you were being charged anything over what you pledged on Kickstarter, I've nullified it with a "complimentary credit". If you have elected to pick up your rewards and don't need shipping, I've issued a credit equal to the shipping cost. You can use that towards some additional add-on items or just leave it (I'll put it toward the production costs that this Kickstarter didn't cover).

Please do let me know if you see anything strange. I went through every backer's order, so hopefully there are no surprises.

I will be "locking down" the April-centric rewards soon, which means you will no longer be able to add additional add-on items. So, if you want to purchase anything additional (or use your credit), please do so quickly!

Thanks again!

"In The Future, We Are Dead" garnering lots of attention!

Wow! Eva Müller's "In The Future, We Are Dead" was one of two non-Japanese comics nominated (of more than a thousand submissions) for a Best Manga award by the Japanese Media Arts Festival jury!

Robin Enrico of the U.K.'s Broken Frontier gave a stellar review of ITFWAD (we put an excerpt on the back cover!). You can read it here.

Publishers Weekly, the review & news publication used by librarians, publishers and those in the industry, also gave an overwhelmingly positive review to ITFWAD. Read it here!

Eva has a short interview about the book on the Death & The Maiden blog. Read it here!

Warren Elliott also gave a glowing review on Almost Normal Comics. Read it here!

If you didn't order "In The Future, We Are Dead", don't worry. You can add it on to your Kickstarter reward through BackerKit or use the pre-order button from our Kickstarter campaign!
