Birdcage Bottom Books 2018 comics publications

Created by J.T. Yost

This year, Birdcage Bottom Books is hoping to introduce some incredibly talented cartoonists flying under the radar to a wider audience. By pre-ordering through this Kickstarter campaign, you'll both ensure these publications see the light of day and save money! This is also your chance to get custom artwork, original comics page art, exclusive mini-comics and more.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Jordan Jeffries' movie drawings / BackerKit

Hello backers!

Well, we're in the last week of the campaign, and we're almost 80% funded. Thanks to all of you, and please continue to spread the word.

I wanted to let you know that Jordan Jeffries has put a bunch of his horror movie drawings (from his "Spooky Show" 'zines) up for sale on his Store Envy. They're incredibly affordable at $5 - $20 a piece (I bought a couple myself), and the money raised will go towards funding our Kickstarter. We just got word that the IFC Center will be carrying "The Complete Matinee Junkie at their theater here in NYC, so that's exciting! If your local cinema carries merch, please let us know so we can approach them about carrying Jordan's book.

In other movie-related news, we were excited to see a tweet from cinephile & comics evangelist (oh, and stand-up comedian & actor) Patton Oswalt recommending our Kickstarter to his followers! We can still use help getting the word out, so if you know of any appropriate movie related blogs, actors, directors, etc. that may be interested in helping, please let us know (or let them know)!

We'll be using a service called BackerKit that will allow backers to add on items after the campaign ends. When you get your backer survey, you'll have the option to add on any comic, print or shirt published by Birdcage Bottom Books, including the new titles featured in this campaign!

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE! Hopefully we can keep the momentum going and meet the funding goal. If we do ahead of schedule, we'll announce some stretch goals (hint: free comics for all).

Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Matt Groening and other long-shots

Well, we're inching ever so close to being 50% funded, so thanks again to everyone who has pledged and helped get the word out.

I feel like I've tapped out the Birdcage Bottom Books fanbase and probably most of the involved artists' followers, so now I'm thinking "out of the box". I've been tweeting to known comics enthusiasts like Patton Oswalt & Brian Posehn and even my old childhood hero, Matt Groening (who hasn't posted since 2011, so I'm not holding my breath on that one). I'm also trying to target the Death/goth market for Eva's book and movie buffs and indie theaters for Jordan's.

If any of you have suggestions or contacts that could be helpful, I'm all ears!

Oh, and I should mention that I'm holding a contest on the BBB Instagram & Facebook pages. Anyone can enter, it's incredibly easy, and you can win one of any BBB product (excluding t-shirts). Right now, there's literally one entry on Instagram and none on Facebook, so your chance of winning is pretty great.

I really didn't mean for this howler monkey to look decapitated. The red splatters were just for some emphasis. I love me some primates.

Doin' great!

Well, we're a day and a half in and closing in on $2K! To be honest, I'm sweating bullets about this one, but you all are helping ease my anxiety.

As you may or may not know, these Kickstarter campaigns are all or nothing. The $10K goal won't actually cover all of the printing cost (especially after Kickstarter & the credit card processor takes their cut), but I felt like a goal beyond that might not be achieved.

That's not because I don't believe in the work. I stand behind each of these comics and creators 100%. For a variety of reasons, some of these creators haven't built up a huge fanbase yet (they will, they will), which is why I wanted to put whatever influence I have behind them to make sure these comics get into as many hands as possible.

So, I want to thank all of you again and implore you to keep spreading the word. I would love to see these comics published, and since you supported this campaign, I'm assuming you do too!
